TL;DR See the FreeBSD Project Mirrors page for details of current FreeBSD global mirror servers.
Once upon a time the FreeBSD Project's source repositories, web sites, file repositories, mailing list archives and problem report archives were hosted on the Project's servers in the USA and mirrored by volunteers around the world to provide local access for their communities. We had volunteers hosting such mirror servers in Australia, and that is what this page was about. Now that the FreeBSD Project manages its own global mirror servers and content caching resources, that obsolete information has been removed.
There is no longer any need to be aware of region-specific or country-specific domain names for these resources, as the Project's primary domain names for these resources (e.g. www.FreeBSD.org) are resolved via GeoDNS so that users are directed to a local instance of the resource.
Most of what used to be available on the Project's FTP servers are now distributed locally via HTTP (no FTP service) at http://download.FreeBSD.org. As an alternative, we have one surviving local mirror (also HTTP-only) hosted by AARNET.
If you need to use FTP to access these resources, you'll need to use ftp.FreeBSD.org which points to servers hosted in the USA.
